A person read every profile here before it went live. You see his photos; he sees yours only after you approve him. Your phone and email are never shown to anyone. Photos appear when she approves your request. Every interest you send carries a note you wrote, so make it count. Her contact details are never shown; she shares them if she wants to.

Hindu Auckland

The community in Auckland

More than half of New Zealand’s Hindus live in Auckland, across Papatoetoe, Mount Roskill, Avondale and the eastern suburbs, with temples that double as the centre of community life.

The South Asian community in Auckland is strongest in Papatoetoe, Ōtāhuhu, Manurewa, Takanini, Flat Bush, Botany and Māngere, and the Hindu community gathers around the temples in Papatoetoe, Mount Roskill and Avondale. Those are also the places a search on Rishta tends to start, though most members open theirs to the whole city and often to Auckland, Hamilton or Christchurch too.

Hindu families here are asking about language, community, diet and how observant a household is, and often about horoscopes as well. Rishta puts those in the profile as fields rather than leaving them to a first phone call: religion and community are separate, mother tongue is its own filter, diet distinguishes vegetarian from eggetarian from non-vegetarian, and “no bar” is always an option. Photos stay private until she approves someone, which is the part that brings women here.

How Rishta works for Hindu families in Auckland

Filters Hindu families here actually use: Mother tongue · Community, or no bar · Vegetarian / eggetarian · How observant · Family origin · Citizen, PR or visa.

Read by a person, or invisible
Someone reads every profile before it goes live. Until it passes you cannot search and nobody can find you. No bots, no recycled photos, no profile made in two minutes.
An ID check if you want one
Photograph your passport or licence and then your face, and your profile carries a verified badge. It takes about a minute, it costs nothing, and it is entirely optional — we are not asking anyone to hand over a document just to look around.
No firehose
Every interest has to carry a note someone wrote by hand, at least forty characters of it, so nobody can bulk-send. There is no daily quota to spend and no button that fires a hundred taps at once.
Talk without giving out your number
Once you have accepted someone you can call them, voice, straight from the conversation. It goes between your two phones and never through us. Either of you can ask to turn cameras on mid-call, and the other has to agree first. You can switch calls off entirely and still write to people.
A matchmaker, never from your city
New Zealand members are looked after by matchmakers based in Australia, never their own. She will not run into you at a wedding. Free for women; on the Vichola tier ($1200/month) she searches and approaches on a man’s behalf.

Questions Hindu families in Auckland ask us

Is Rishta open in Auckland?
Yes. Auckland is one of our opening cities. Women can join free today; men join the waitlist and verify when introductions begin, and billing starts only then.
How is this different from Shaadi.com for Hindu families in Auckland?
Three ways. A person reads every profile before it goes live. Women decide who can find them, and their photos are hidden until they approve someone. And no phone number or email is ever displayed on a profile, at any membership level. There is a longer comparison at /rishta-vs-shaadi.
Do women pay?
Not to search, be found, add photos, send interests, message or call. That is free for women permanently, and men pay for the same things. A matchmaker working on your behalf is a separate paid service for everyone, because that is a person’s time.
Can my parents be involved?
Yes. Family can pay for a son’s membership, can see a Family View page you choose the contents of, and can speak to your matchmaker with your consent. What they can’t do is create or run a profile for someone who hasn’t agreed to it.
Can I filter by community and mother tongue?
Yes. Mother tongue, religion, community (with “caste no bar” always available), diet, family origin and residency status are all filters, and any of them can be a must-have.

A note from the founder

I spent six months on a paid plan on the biggest matrimonial site in the world, searching honestly for someone to marry from here. I found roughly ten men for every woman, a paid plan that produced nothing, and a fake profile I could make in minutes.

Rishta is what I wished had existed: women free with nothing held back, photos hidden until she says yes, every profile read by a person before it goes live, every interest written by hand, no phone numbers on the page, and a matchmaker who is never from your own town. I built it because I am looking too.
